CoolSculpting has for years been a wonderful treatment for those looking to reduce pockets of unwanted fat without the downtime or expense that surgery requires. CoolSculpting uses a patented technology called Cryolipolysis which essentially freezes the fat in areas where the device is used. Fat cells are very sensitive to cold temperatures, and this safe “freezing” of the fat is designed to eliminate fat cells without injuring the skin or other surrounding tissues that can often be damaged in more invasive procedures like liposuction. CoolSculpting can render up to 25% reduction of fat cells to the areas treated. Those fat cells are gone for good, and once frozen, are safely eliminated from the body via lymphatic transport. The CoolSculpting device utilizes a large and small applicator to treat fat that can be “pinched” or “suctioned” between two cooling plates. These areas include the abdomen, arms, flanks, bra fat, inner thighs, and buttocks. Recently, two additional applicators, the CoolMini and the CoolSmooth have been developed in order to treat areas not traditionally treated in the past due to their difficulty in being suctioned by the small and large applicators. Now, with the development of the CoolMini and the CoolSmooth, treatments can also be performed on outer thighs, knees, and even under the chin.
The treatment is quick (lasting 1 hour per application) and generally comfortable. Most patients read, work, watch movies, or even sleep through their treatment. Results can be seen in as little as 4-8 weeks post treatment, and patients can be retreated at that time if they desire even greater added reduction.
