Septoplasty

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure used to correct a deviated septum, which is the strip that lies between the nostrils. In addition to having an aesthetic impact, septoplasty may open airways and relieve obstructions that can make breathing difficult or lead to other problems, such as snoring.

Is Septoplasty Right for You?

If you suffer from a deviated septum that impairs breathing, causes sinus problems, or pain, you may benefit from septoplasty. Ideally, a septum runs down the center of the nose between the nostrils, but it may deviate to one side or the other due to injury or heredity.

The Septoplasty Procedure

During a septoplasty, the plastic surgeon works through the nostrils and makes an incision along the lining to reach the affected cartilage. The surgeon removes excess tissue and cartilage and may stabilize the septum with tubes, splints or sutures.
