HCG Diet History
The Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone that is produced by both men and women. The HCG hormone rises rapidly in newly pregnant mothers. The diet supports the endocrine system and helps reduce overall fat stores while increasing energy.
The diet is broken down into 3 phases. The first phase is a weeklong anti-inflammatory cleanse. The second phase lasts either 2 or 4 weeks and involves taking your HCG alongside a calorie, carbohydrate and fat restricted diet. The final phase is the most important as it involves increasing calories while following a maintenance diet that helps to sustain your weight loss.
The diet was developed by Dr. A.T.W Simeons who researched obesity as a clinical metabolic disorder in the 1970s. His research led him to believe that excess fat accumulation is due to an “abnormal functioning part of the body.” As long as this “abnormality” exists fat buildup will occur regardless of diet and exercise. In his book, “Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity”, Dr. Simeons expands on his approach utilizing HCG in weight loss long term. The communication between the hypothalamus and pituitary gland is vital for an overall healthy endocrine system. When this signaling process becomes weak overall energy levels become low and fat can begin to store in unwanted areas such as the belly, hips, and thighs.
This diet can help restore the signaling pathway between the hypothalamus and pituitary glands. The results may help support energy, sleep and weight loss. If you are taking ANY medications it is essential that you disclose them to your practitioner.

What to Expect From HCG
HCG and the HCG diet program can bring dramatic change in weight loss over a relatively short period of time, but the most important lasting effect of the program is that it reestablishes connection between your two biggest hormone centers: the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. As a result, individuals not only see their bodies lose weight and affectively maintain their results long term, but they also experience the benefits of a balanced hormone system. These additional benefits include: improved sleep, increased energy levels, lack of sugar/carbohydrate cravings, balanced moods, glowing skin, alleviation of menopausal/postmenopausal symptoms, and less painful menstrual cycles.
What Does The HCG Diet Program Entail
The HCG diet program is a combination of protein, vegetables, and fruits. While taking HCG, a person’s body is more sensitive to fat, carbohydrates from grains, and sugar. Therefore, during the 4 weeks of the diet, these foods are avoided. Clients receive a food list, and book of recipes for help getting started on the program. The adjustments made while on the HCG diet program are not meant to be lifelong changes – they are put into place to help you lose weight and support the balancing effect of the HCG hormonally. Additionally, clients are given a modified caloric intake to abide by daily for the purposes of losing excess weight and allowing the HCG to fully access the excess storages of fat in the body it targets. Clients are given caloric restrictions between 500-1200 calories depending on the clients’ goals and lifestyle. These levels are for the purpose of the weight loss phase ONLY. Once a client has completed Phase II of HCG, Phase III allows the client to reintroduce certain restricted foods and consume a minimum of 1200 calories daily.
Who Can Take HCG
HCG is a safe and effective way to lose weight quickly and keep it off. Whether a client is looking to lose 10 pounds or 100, HCG can be an extremely affective tool for achieving those results. It is recommended however, that if you are currently pregnant, nursing, or battling a life threatening disease that you not take HCG. An evaluation will be conducted during the client’s scheduled appointment to determine if HCG is an appropriate method for weight loss or hormone balancing.
