Body contouring for the things workouts can't fix.

Surgical body contouring exists for a specific reason: there are concerns the gym, diet, and time simply can't resolve. Stubborn fat deposits in the flanks or lower abdomen. Loose abdominal skin and separated muscles after pregnancy. Hanging skin after major weight loss. Each of these requires a specific surgical answer — and the right procedure depends entirely on what the underlying anatomy looks like.

Hall Plastic Surgery offers six core body contouring procedures, individually or combined. A Mommy Makeover, for example, isn't a single procedure — it's a strategic combination of breast surgery and abdominal surgery (typically tummy tuck plus liposuction) tailored to post-pregnancy changes. Combining procedures during one operation reduces total recovery time and anesthesia exposure, which is why so many body cases are performed as combinations rather than individual operations.

Dr. Jeffrey Hall has performed body contouring surgery in Austin for over 25 years. He's particularly known for combining technologies — his TickleTite technique pairs Tickle Lipo (precise fat reshaping) with BodyTite (radiofrequency skin tightening) in a single operation, addressing both the volume and the skin envelope at the same time. Procedures are performed in our accredited on-site surgical facility at the Westlake location.

Liposuction at Hall Plastic Surgery in Austin

Liposuction

Targeted fat removal — sculpt what diet can't.

Liposuction reshapes the body by removing fat from specific areas — abdomen, flanks, back, arms, thighs, or under the chin. It's a contouring procedure, not a weight-loss procedure: ideal candidates are within range of their goal weight but have stubborn deposits that resist diet and exercise. Dr. Hall offers traditional, Tickle Lipo, and SmartLipo techniques.

Multiple liposuction technologies are available. Traditional suction-assisted lipoplasty (SAL) is the original technique — reliable and well-suited to large-volume cases. Tickle Lipo uses a vibrating cannula that gently 'tickles' fat cells loose with less trauma to surrounding tissue, often resulting in less bruising and faster recovery. SmartLipo (laser-assisted) adds laser energy that helps melt fat and may provide modest skin tightening. Dr. Hall selects the technique based on what your specific case needs — often using more than one in a single procedure.

Best for
Localized fat that doesn't respond to lifestyle change. Good skin elasticity is important — the skin needs to retract over the new contour.
Recovery
5–10 days off normal activities. Compression garment for 4–6 weeks. Final results develop over 3–6 months as swelling resolves.
Combines with
Almost every other body procedure — tummy tuck, mommy makeover, arm lift, body lift.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) at Hall Plastic Surgery in Austin

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Flatten and tighten the abdomen.

A tummy tuck removes excess abdominal skin, repairs separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), and tightens the remaining tissue. It addresses what liposuction alone cannot: loose skin and muscle separation, both of which are common after pregnancy or significant weight loss. Mini, full, and extended techniques are available depending on the extent of change.

Three main techniques exist. Mini tummy tuck addresses skin and fat below the belly button only, with a shorter scar — appropriate for patients with isolated lower abdominal concerns. Full tummy tuck addresses the entire abdomen above and below the navel, repairs separated muscles, and is the most common technique. Extended tummy tuck adds flank tightening for patients with significant skin laxity that wraps around the body. The right technique depends on your specific anatomy and goals.

Best for
Loose abdominal skin that hangs over the waistband, abdominal muscle separation that prevents the abdomen from looking flat regardless of fitness level, and stretch marks below the belly button (which are removed with the excess skin).
Recovery
2 weeks off work for desk jobs, longer for physical jobs. No exercise for 6 weeks. Compression garment for 4–6 weeks. Drains typically removed at 1–2 weeks.
Combines with
Most commonly combined with liposuction (of flanks/back) and breast surgery as part of a Mommy Makeover.

Mommy Makeover at Hall Plastic Surgery in Austin

Mommy Makeover

Address post-pregnancy changes in one recovery.

A Mommy Makeover combines breast surgery and abdominal surgery into a single operation tailored to your specific post-pregnancy changes. The breast component is typically a lift, augmentation, or both. The abdominal component is typically a tummy tuck, often with liposuction. The goal is to address all the major concerns at once, with one anesthesia event and one recovery period.

Common Mommy Makeover combinations include: tummy tuck + breast augmentation (for patients who lost volume during nursing), tummy tuck + breast lift (for patients whose breasts have descended), tummy tuck + lift + augmentation (for patients with both concerns), and any of these with concurrent liposuction of the flanks or back. The specific combination is built around your concerns at consultation. Total operative time and recovery scale with the combination — Dr. Hall will discuss what's safely combinable in a single operation versus what should be staged.

Best for
Patients who are done having children, near their goal weight, and bothered by changes that diet and exercise haven't been able to reverse. Best results come at least 6 months after stopping breastfeeding.
Recovery
2–3 weeks off work. No lifting over 10 lbs for 6 weeks. Sleep elevated for 2 weeks. Help at home is essential, especially with young children, for the first 2 weeks.
Combines with
Already a combination procedure — but the specific combination is built around your concerns at consultation.

Lower Body Lift at Hall Plastic Surgery in Austin

Lower Body Lift

Address excess skin after major weight loss.

A lower body lift removes excess skin and tissue from the abdomen, hips, and outer thighs in a single operation. It's the most common procedure following major weight loss (50+ lbs lost). The incision wraps around the body — most of it hidden by underwear — and produces a dramatic improvement in body contour.

Lower body lift is the largest standalone body contouring procedure. The incision pattern wraps around the entire lower torso — most of it tucked into the waistband area where underwear and most swimwear hide it. The amount of tissue removed can be substantial in post-bariatric patients. Drains are used and typically remain for 1–2 weeks. Recovery is the longest of any body procedure: 3–4 weeks before returning to desk work, 6–8 weeks before resuming exercise.

Best for
Patients who have lost significant weight (typically through bariatric surgery, GLP-1 medications, or sustained lifestyle change) and now have hanging skin around the lower torso that no amount of fitness can address.
Recovery
3–4 weeks off work. No exercise for 6–8 weeks. Drains for 1–2 weeks. Most extensive recovery of the body procedures.
Combines with
Often staged with arm lift and breast lift if upper-body skin laxity is also a concern. Cannot all be done at once for safety reasons.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) at Hall Plastic Surgery in Austin

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Tighten and contour the upper arms.

An arm lift removes loose skin from the inside of the upper arm, often combined with liposuction to refine the contour. The incision runs along the inner arm — visible when the arms are raised but hidden when arms are at rest. For patients with mild skin laxity, BodyTite alone may be enough; for moderate to severe laxity, a traditional arm lift is more reliable.

Two main approaches. A traditional arm lift uses an incision running along the inner arm from the elbow to the underarm — visible when arms are raised but hidden when arms are at rest. A short-scar arm lift addresses limited skin laxity through a shorter incision tucked in the underarm crease only. For very mild laxity, BodyTite alone may produce enough tightening to avoid an excisional procedure. Dr. Hall will examine your specific tissue at consultation and recommend the appropriate technique.

Best for
Loose, hanging skin on the upper arms — typically from significant weight loss or aging. Genetics also play a role.
Recovery
10–14 days off work. No upper-body exercise for 4–6 weeks. Compression sleeves for 2–4 weeks.
Combines with
Frequently paired with arm liposuction for refined contouring.

BodyTite at Hall Plastic Surgery in Austin

BodyTite

Minimally invasive skin tightening with body contouring.

BodyTite uses radiofrequency energy delivered through a small probe to tighten skin while simultaneously reducing fat in the targeted area. The procedure is performed through tiny incisions and produces results that bridge the gap between liposuction (no skin tightening) and full excisional procedures (significant skin tightening but larger scars). Dr. Hall's TickleTite technique pairs BodyTite with Tickle Lipo for enhanced contouring.

BodyTite (and FaceTite, the smaller version for facial use) uses a probe with two electrodes — one inside the tissue and one outside — that generates radiofrequency energy between them. The energy contracts collagen fibers and tightens skin while a smaller cannula simultaneously reduces fat. The result is meaningfully more skin tightening than liposuction can produce, without the long scars of an excisional procedure. The technology is FDA-cleared and has accumulated substantial clinical data over the past several years.

Best for
Mild to moderate skin laxity in the abdomen, flanks, arms, thighs, or chin/neck — too much for liposuction alone but not enough to justify a full excisional procedure.
Recovery
5–7 days off normal activities. Compression garment for 4 weeks. Skin tightening continues to improve for 6–12 months.
Combines with
Pairs well with traditional liposuction (Tickle Lipo + BodyTite = TickleTite).

Decision framework

Choosing between body procedures.

The most common consultation question for body contouring is some version of: "Do I need a tummy tuck, or just liposuction?" The answer comes down to what your specific concern actually is — fat, skin, muscle, or some combination.

If your concern is… The procedure is… Alternatives
Stubborn fat deposits, good skin tone Liposuction Non-surgical: CoolSculpting (less effective)
Loose abdominal skin + muscle separation Tummy tuck None — surgery is the only fix
Mild skin laxity + fat deposits BodyTite + liposuction (TickleTite) Non-surgical options limited
Post-pregnancy: breasts + abdomen Mommy Makeover Each procedure separately, longer total recovery
Significant weight loss, hanging skin Lower body lift / arm lift None — significant skin removal requires excision
Loose upper arm skin Arm lift (or BodyTite if mild) Non-surgical: limited results
Stubborn double chin Submental liposuction (or BodyTite) Non-surgical: Kybella, CoolMini (multiple sessions)
Recovery

Recovery and downtime — body procedures.

Body contouring recovery times vary widely. A small-area liposuction case can have you back at a desk job in 5 days. A lower body lift after major weight loss is a 4-week recovery. Plan accordingly.

Minor (5–10 days)
  • Liposuction (small area)
  • BodyTite (single area)
  • Submental liposuction
Moderate (2–3 weeks)
  • Tummy tuck
  • Arm lift
  • Mommy Makeover
  • Liposuction (large area)
Extended (3–4 weeks)
  • Lower body lift

Compression garments are part of every body procedure recovery. They control swelling, support healing tissue, and meaningfully improve final contour. Expect to wear yours longer than feels intuitive — usually 4–6 weeks. Walking is encouraged early; vigorous exercise is restricted for 6 weeks across nearly every body procedure.

Investment

What body contouring surgery costs in Austin.

Body procedure pricing varies by area, complexity, and whether procedures are combined. Liposuction starts at $5,000 (depending on areas treated). Tummy tuck and Mommy Makeover are higher due to the additional surgical and recovery scope. Pricing is provided in writing at your consultation.

Combining procedures into a single operation almost always reduces total cost compared to staging them separately, because anesthesia, facility, and follow-up costs are shared. Hall Plastic Surgery accepts financing through several patient-financing partners with 0% APR options for qualified borrowers.

The consultation

What to expect at your body contouring consultation.

Body contouring consultations are detailed and physical. Dr. Hall examines the area, assesses skin elasticity (a critical factor in choosing the right procedure), and discusses your body composition, weight history, and goals. For Mommy Makeover candidates, the breast and abdominal exams happen together so combinations can be planned thoughtfully.

You'll discuss specifically what each procedure would and wouldn't fix in your case. The most common consultation moment is realizing that liposuction alone won't address loose skin, or that a tummy tuck without liposuction of the flanks will leave a contour mismatch. Dr. Hall maps these out clearly using examination, photographs, and a clear visual explanation of what surgery actually does.

Practical topics covered: anesthesia (general anesthesia for most body procedures), where surgery will be performed (almost always our accredited Westlake facility), expected recovery time given your work and family situation, drain management if applicable, compression garment requirements, scar locations and how they'll mature, pricing in writing, and financing options. For combined cases (Mommy Makeover, lift + lipo), the consultation is longer and may extend to a second visit before scheduling.

Process timeline

From consultation to final result — what the timeline actually looks like.

Consultation
Day 0

Complimentary 60–90 minute consultation with Dr. Hall. Examination, photographs, discussion of options. Combined cases may extend to a second visit. Pricing in writing before you leave.

Pre-surgical visit
1–2 weeks before surgery

Final measurements, surgical markings discussed, pre-op instructions reviewed. Medical clearance and labs completed. Compression garments ordered.

Surgery day
Day of surgery

Procedure performed at our accredited Westlake surgical facility. Body procedures range from 1 hour (single-area liposuction) to 5–6 hours (Mommy Makeover). Same-day discharge with a designated driver and overnight care arranged.

Early recovery
Days 1–7

Most discomfort concentrated here. Walking is encouraged starting day 1. Drains (if used) typically stay 1–2 weeks. Sleeping in a recliner or with pillows is common. Compression garment 24/7.

The surgeon

Dr. Jeffrey Hall — board-certified, 25+ years.

Dr. Hall has been performing plastic surgery in Austin since 1995. He earned his medical degree, completed plastic surgery residency, and was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1997 — the field's highest credentialing body. He has maintained that certification continuously and is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the American Medical Association, and the Texas Medical Association.

His approach is consistent across every patient: the surgeon you talk to in consultation is the surgeon in the operating room and at every follow-up. There are no associates performing parts of the case. There's no rotating cast at post-op visits. For procedures with this many touchpoints, that continuity is the whole point.

Why Hall

Why patients choose Hall Plastic Surgery for body contouring.

TickleTite — Dr. Hall's combined technique

Dr. Hall has combined Tickle Lipo (precise, gentle fat reshaping) with BodyTite (radiofrequency skin tightening) into a single procedure called TickleTite. The combination addresses both volume and skin envelope at the same time — a particular advantage for the abdomen and flanks.

Experience with weight-loss patients

Whether you've lost weight through bariatric surgery, GLP-1 medications, or sustained lifestyle change, post-weight-loss skin is a different surgical challenge. Dr. Hall has experience with this patient population and a detailed approach to staging multiple procedures safely.

Same surgeon, full continuity

There are no associates performing parts of your case. Dr. Hall is your surgeon at consultation, in the operating room, at every drain removal, and at every follow-up visit through the first year.

Accredited on-site surgical facility

Procedures are performed in our own accredited surgery center at Westlake — not a hospital. This gives us control over scheduling, privacy, anesthesia team, and the patient experience.

Strategic combinations

Mommy Makeovers, lift + augmentation, body lift + arm lift staging — Dr. Hall has the experience to advise on what's safely combinable and what should be staged. The goal is the best total result with the safest total recovery.

Family-owned practice with long-tenured team

Dr. Hall co-owns the practice with his wife. Team members have been with us for years. That continuity matters — especially through the longer recoveries that body contouring sometimes requires.

Myths corrected

Common myths about body contouring — corrected.

Myth

Liposuction is a weight-loss procedure.

Reality

Liposuction is a contouring procedure, not weight loss. Most cases remove 2–10 pounds of fat — meaningful for body shape but not for the scale. Ideal candidates are within 10–15% of their goal weight. Patients who use liposuction as a substitute for weight loss are often disappointed; patients who use it to address specific stubborn areas after weight loss are typically thrilled.

Myth

If I have liposuction, the fat will come back somewhere else.

Reality

Fat cells removed by liposuction don't return — adults have a relatively fixed number of fat cells. However, the fat cells you still have can grow if you gain weight. So weight gain after liposuction shows up in untreated areas, which can look disproportionate. Maintaining your weight is the key to maintaining liposuction results.

Myth

Tummy tuck scars are obvious and permanent.

Reality

A well-placed tummy tuck scar runs hip-to-hip below the bikini line and is hidden by most underwear and swimwear. The scar takes 12–18 months to fully mature and fade. Scar care matters — silicone treatment, sun protection, and avoiding tension during healing all contribute. Most patients are very satisfied with how their mature scar looks at the one-year mark.

Myth

BodyTite is the same as CoolSculpting.

Reality

They're not similar at all. CoolSculpting is non-invasive (no incisions) and uses cold to freeze fat cells, with no skin tightening. BodyTite is minimally invasive (one tiny entry point per area) and uses radiofrequency to both reduce fat and meaningfully tighten skin. CoolSculpting works well for pure fat reduction in patients with great skin; BodyTite is appropriate when both fat and skin laxity need to be addressed.

Myth

I should wait until I lose all my weight before considering body surgery.

Reality

Generally yes — but with caveats. For patients losing weight through GLP-1 medications, we often recommend stabilizing weight for 3 months before surgery rather than continuing to lose. For patients close to their goal but plateaued, a strategic body procedure can sometimes help with motivation by removing the loose skin or stubborn fat that exercise won't fix.

Common questions

Common questions about body contouring surgery.

Liposuction removes fat. A tummy tuck removes loose skin and repairs separated abdominal muscles. If you have fat with good skin tone, liposuction is enough. If you have loose skin (from pregnancy, weight loss, or aging) or you can feel a gap between your abdominal muscles when you do a sit-up, you'll need a tummy tuck. Many patients need both — liposuction of the flanks during a tummy tuck is one of the most common combinations.

We recommend waiting at least 6 months after stopping breastfeeding for the breast tissue to fully stabilize. Beyond that, the bigger consideration is whether you're done having children — a Mommy Makeover after a future pregnancy will lose much of its result, especially the tummy tuck portion. Patients who plan more children typically wait until they're done.

Stretch marks below the belly button are typically removed entirely along with the excess skin. Stretch marks above the belly button remain, but are tightened and may appear less prominent on the flatter, smoother skin surface. The exact answer depends on your specific skin pattern at consultation.

CoolSculpting is non-invasive (no incisions) but less powerful — it reduces fat by 20–25% per treatment in a localized area, with no meaningful skin tightening. BodyTite is minimally invasive (a single small entry point per area) and combines fat reduction with significant skin tightening from radiofrequency energy. For mild laxity, BodyTite is much more effective. For pure fat reduction in someone with great skin, CoolSculpting can be a reasonable non-surgical option.

The first 2–3 days feel like a bruise — sore, tender, but manageable with prescribed pain medication. Most patients are off prescription pain medicine by day 4. The compression garment is the bigger inconvenience — it's worn 24/7 for the first 2 weeks and during the day for an additional 2–4 weeks. Full activity at 4–6 weeks.

These aren't weight-loss procedures. A tummy tuck typically removes 2–6 lbs of skin and fat. Liposuction removes 2–10 lbs of fat depending on areas treated. Patients shouldn't expect significant weight loss — what they should expect is significant change in body contour and clothing fit. Pants size often drops by 1–2 sizes after a tummy tuck even when weight stays the same.

Yes — and it's an increasingly common reason for consultation. GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro) produce rapid weight loss that often outpaces the skin's ability to retract, leaving loose skin in the abdomen, arms, thighs, and face. Dr. Hall has experience working with this patient population. We typically recommend stabilizing your weight for at least 3 months before surgery and discussing whether you'll continue medication during recovery.

Liposuction scars are tiny — 3–4mm dots in inconspicuous locations, often invisible after they mature. Tummy tuck scar runs hip-to-hip below the bikini line; well-placed, it's hidden by most swimwear and underwear. Arm lift scar is on the inside of the upper arm. Lower body lift scar wraps around the body, mostly under the waistband. All scars take 12–18 months to fully mature; we have specific scar care recommendations.

Yes — that's exactly what a Mommy Makeover is. Beyond Mommy Makeover, other combinations are possible: tummy tuck with breast augmentation, or arm lift with breast lift. There are limits for safety (total operative time, total estimated blood loss, total tissue trauma), so very large combinations may need to be staged. Dr. Hall will discuss what's safely combinable at consultation.
