Breast Lift
Breast Lift
Women are amazing biological machines and with all that marvelous chemistry, change is inevitable. Over time, your breasts may lose some of their elasticity, shape and fullness. There’s no one reason—it could be due to pregnancy, breast feeding, weight change, heredity or good old-fashioned gravity. It can affect not only your appearance, but your self-esteem and confidence. Fortunately, breast lift surgery is an appealing option for those who’d like to improve their self-image and regain that youthful appeal.
Are you ready for a breast lift?
A woman considering breast lift surgery should know what she hopes to accomplish through the procedure and make a fully informed decision with her surgeon. This procedure provides a rejuvenating look for women who may be satisfied with the size and proportion of their breast, but would like a more confident, more youthful appearance. Candidates include women in good overall-health who may feel their breasts sag, have lost their firmness and elasticity, or have developed a flat, elongated shape. Women may also seek a lift if their nipples point downward, fall below the breast-crease when unsupported or if the skin around the areola is stretched.
Will the procedure enlarge my breasts?
A breast lift is not intended to enlarge the existing breast, however, a breast implant may be inserted during an enlargement procedure that can be performed in conjunction with the breast lift surgery.
The Breast Lift Procedure
Breast lift surgery involves tightening and lifting the breasts. There are a number of options but the most common procedure involves three incisions: one around the areola, a second that extends vertically from the areola to the breast crease, and a third, horizontal incision along the breast crease. Excess skin is removed and the nipple and areola may be repositioned to achieve a natural height. The result is a firmer, reshaped breast with a more visually pleasing contour. Other items to note:
- A breast lift is not intended to enlarge the existing breast, though a breast implant may be inserted during an enlargement procedure in conjunction with the breast lift surgery
- The change will be evident immediately and results should improve as swelling subsides and the breasts take on a more balanced, natural appearance
- The procedure can also be used to reduce the size of an areola
